OpenText has a strong presence in India with offices in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Delhi and Mumbai and over 2,200 employees. Approximately 500 employees are part of the Professional Services India Centre of Excellence (CoE) team.
Recently some of the Professional Services (PS) Leadership team and I had the good fortune to visit the OpenText Bengaluru office for meetings with the PS India CoE Leadership team.
I had been to India in the past and met some of our India CoE team, and did know there were a lot of talented people there. However, until I spent a full week in Bengaluru meeting many and learning about the work they have done, I didn’t truly appreciate the depth and breadth of their expertise.
The India CoE team have expertise across PS practices and the vast majority of our products. They have delivery teams that are directly aligned with the practices and have been part of many projects, covering all phases of the project lifecycle including managed services.
Our India CoE team also have close connections with the India Engineering team. As they are co-located and virtually all of the products are also represented in India Engineering, the product and PS teams regularly share information that help expedite customer issues as implementation use cases and best practices are discussed.
As we have in other locations around t he world, the India CoE PS team have some areas of specialization. I met with and interviewed several people across the practice areas and learned about some areas of particularly deep and special expertise. A few examples:
- Process Suite – the India CoE PS team have done more Process Suite and Entity modelling implementation work than any other group and are considered our global experts in this technology
- Quality Assurance – India CoE have built a team that has specialized testing skills and can do everything from test planning to functional, performance and security testing. They have specialized tools and skills and have performed testing for many projects in different regions.
- Managed Services – much of our managed services work for both Business Networks and Enterprise Managed Services is done from the India CoE. They have built tools and developed best practices to better manage customer implementations in the cloud and on-premises.
In our interviews we talked about communication and teaming between resources in India CoE and the people on-site with the customer. In some cases India CoE resources joined the customer on-site during critical project phases such as Blueprinting or Go Live. The project stories I heard made it clear that joint project delivery has worked well in all regions around the world.
Aside from the meetings, the personal interactions were fantastic. There was Masala tea (I miss that!), great food and some fun. Some of the group broke out into a flash mob (Bollywood style) as we toured the office, and their talent was showcased in an unbelievable cultural event one evening.
I left our week together both humbled and impressed, looking forward to all of the great things we can accomplish together as one truly global PS team.
