New Forrester Wave™: ECM Content Platforms

Expert insight into the evolving content management landscape

Leading independent analysis highlights the latest innovations and use cases in ECM and Content Services, and positions OpenText as a Leader.

Forrester Research, Inc. just released their report on the state of the ECM technology landscape, The Forrester Wave™: ECM Content Platforms, Q3, 2019.

Reports from respected, unbiased analysts such as those at Forrester are always recommended reading. Regardless of your role in enterprise content management or content services, their analysis goes a long way toward helping you understand the evolving landscape, the new trends and use cases, and how the technologies from the main vendors are enabling organizations to meet their information management needs.

In 2019, that means facilitating a shift from traditional ECM-based models — simply storing and governing information — to a model built around content services — enabling better use of that information. That includes everything from optimal user experiences to cloud adoption to automation for improved efficiency and the integration of AI and advanced analysis.

ECM platform capabilities continue to advance at warp speed. Content lifecycle management has become truly comprehensive, with the best ECM platforms able to integrate into business processes to automatically capture and classify content at its source, provide it in context for people when and where they need it, and automatically archive or dispose of it depending on organizational governance rules.

But that’s just the present. An important factor in selecting a content management platform is future flexibility and scalability — capabilities that are based on each vendor’s vision for the future of their product and the sector.
We believe that all of these areas are reflected in the 26 criteria that Forrester evaluated as part of their vendor assessment for this report.
