Every movie lover has a favorite chase scene. From Steve McQueen’s Mustang careening through the streets of San Francisco in Bullitt, to the boulder that pursues Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark, to the opening scene of every James Bond movie, a good chase is guaranteed to raise your adrenaline.
But outside of theaters, most companies and organizations want to avoid the thrill of the chase – particularly when what they’re chasing is their own data. Although that pursuit is wasteful and inefficient, it happens all every day: A recent survey by Database Trends and Applications (DBTA) found that almost half of organizations spend too much time chasing after the data they want to analyze. In some cases, looking for data accounts for up to 80 percent of projects.
And once businesses have chased down their data, a different sort of pursuit is on: They’re chasing after timely answers to their questions, because about half of organizations say slow query performance inhibits their ability to fully leverage their data for business insights. It all adds up to an unproductive game of “hurry up and wait.”
Actuate wants to help companies chase down solutions to these problems. That’s why we’re participating in Accelerating Your Analytics for Faster Insights, a free online roundtable hosted by DBTA. We’ll talk about technologies and strategies for speeding up analytics with moderator Stephen Faig of DBTA. Peter Hoopes of Actuate will show how BIRT Analytics enables companies to analyze data and obtain business insights in real time. Representatives from Cirro and IBM also will participate in the roundtable.
So chase your coworkers out of your office (or invite them to join you) on Thursday, September 18 at 2:00 p.m. ET. (11:00 a.m. PT) for Accelerating Your Analytics for Faster Insights. In addition to catching lots of great information, you’ll be entered in a race for a $100 AmEx gift card. Catch it if you can.
