Name: Tanya
Occupation: User Experience Designer for OpenText
Number of years at OpenText: It’s a bit of a long story, but let’s just say I began working with the company as a contractor in 1999 and became a full-time employee in 2011.
Office location: Austin, TX
Tell us a bit about what you do at OpenText:
I lead the user research initiatives for the User Experience Team which include doing usability testing of software, conducting customer interviews, writing surveys and helping design the user interfaces of OpenText products.
What do you like best about working for the company?
I really enjoy working with our customers. They are all so smart, innovative and committed to being successful with our software. I learn from them and am inspired by them daily. I also enjoy learning and working with the latest technology. OpenText is always investigating new trends in technology, which is a lot of fun.
When you’re not working, what do you like to do with your time?
Most of my time not working is spent being a mom and driving a carpool for my two kids. In what little time is left, I like to read and ride my bike. I also have a passion for "trailer food" and attending live music events, especially the Austin City Limits Music Festival.
Tell us something interesting either about yourself or what you've done.
I have a Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology. When I tell people that, they often assume that I don't use my degree at all. But I use it every day! I actually always wanted to work with people using technology. It was my intention to work to make technology accessible to everyone.
On another note, I celebrated my birthday this year by riding my new bike to food trailers around Austin with my husband, sampling their food along the way.
Thanks Tanya!

As we all know, marketing to a global audience presents many challenges. While you may know everything about your market in, say, North America, what do you know about other regions? What type of cultural issues may drive their activities in APAC? How do they conduct business in EMEA? What is their adoption of social media technologies?
Take a look at an article that James Latham, Chief Marketing Officer at OpenText wrote that appeared in Document Magazine. The article discusses the importance of taking a holistic view when creating and deploying a content management strategy. Pay special attention to the example of how Nissan improved their customer experience by carefully mapping out and deploying their content management strategy.
You can also catch a great podcast James recorded on this subject here.
