Happy International Women’s Day!

International Women's Day

It’s March 8 and that means time to celebrate the amazing women across the globe. More importantly, it is time to recognize the positive effects of diversity in our lives. This year’s theme is #BeBoldforChange. Being bold doesn’t mean you need to the loudest or most well-spoken, it means holding true to your beliefs. It means not being afraid to use your voice. It means not being what you are expected to be and being who you are. This is not a recent addition to society. In fact, according to Wikipedia, the first International Women’s Day in the United States was observed on February 28, 1909! This isn’t a new thing, the strength of diversity is woven in the history of culture, with many “firsts” resulting from people being who they were and breaking molds. Susan B. Anthony: An advocate for women’s suffrage, women’s property rights and the abolition of slavery, in 1872 she tried to vote in the Presidential election. While Anthony was never able to legally vote, the 19th amendment, ratified in 1920, was named the “Susan B. Anthony Amendment.” Marie Curie: The first woman Professor of General Physics in the Faculty of Sciences at the Sorbonne in 1906. Madame Curie was also the first person to win two Nobel Prizes in Physics in 1903 and in Chemistry in 1911 for her work in radioactivity. Wangari Muaathai: A Kenyan scientist, professor, environmental and political activist who was the first woman in East or Central Africa to earn a doctorate degree. She is credited with founding a community initiative that seeks to empower women through civic education and environmental stewardship. Mae Jemison: An American physician and the first African-American female astronaut. These women represent only a few who have created change in our world. They were unafraid to do things differently and they have paved the way for change. There are so many examples throughout history and there will be no shortage moving forward. At OpenText, we celebrate diversity. We encourage everyone to use their voice and #BeBoldforChange. Through structured programs and our everyday culture, our values reflect this. To find out more from our CEO Mark Barrenechea on diversity, read his blog celebrating International Women’s Day. Today of all days, be brave, be bold and, be yourself.

The Real U.S. Election Battlefield is Online

The playing field has narrowed, the debates have begun and we are slowly reaching the end of the U.S. Presidential race.  And, what a race it is. Not just on the campaign trail but online as well. Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and more are the hub of political commentary. Flooded with voters debating the issues, the politicians and the latest exploits of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, the people are speaking. A new OpenTextVoice article on Forbes.com explores how that data is changing the race.  While President Obama made a big political play online, it has only grown more sophisticated in the past few years. With tools and advanced analysis, campaigns can use the posts to “see how the tweets, mentions and articles praise their candidate or cast them in a negative light.” One thing is for sure whether you’re a Republican, Democrat, independent, undecided or Donald J. Trump himself, the real race is online. Check out the full article on Forbes.

Disruption and opportunity.  Digital allows the creation of new business models and processes that enable organizations to better serve their customers.  It enables the rapid introduction of new players into more traditional markets who are using those new business models to differentiate themselves by the experience they offer. All of this is driving amazing innovation in the industry so it’s an incredibly exciting place to be. Meet the OpenText Experts: John Radko

Today in Meet the Experts, we caught up with John Radko. John is the Vice President of Product Development for the OpenText Business Network.   What excites you most about the industry right now? Our business and our customers’ businesses are in transition, and we have the opportunity to help them navigate that transition.  There is so much new technology and so many new ways of doing business, but trading communities are still struggling to rapidly share important information in real time – that is our sweet spot. What does the digital world mean to you? I think the most impactful part of the digital world is where it empowers people.  When technology can get people the right information and context at the right time for them to apply judgement then that is powerful.  But digital technology also has to liberate people from routine processes, or they’ll never have the time to address the key issues in front of them. Are you ready for Nashville and why? Absolutely – I’m looking forward to meeting as many customers as possible, and learning how we can help them better collaborate with their business partners.  I’m also eager to share where the OpenText Business Network is going for a technical and business perspective. Why is this going to be the best Enterprise World yet? OpenText is bigger and better at each Enterprise World, as a result of our organic product development and our acquisitions.  For OpenText Business Network, this is our first Enterprise World since the release of Trading Grid Analytics, and our enhanced offerings for Fax/Notification in Europe and the expanded road map for Managed Services. What will customers learn about our products at the event? There was a huge focus on the Cloud 16 and Suite 16 launch at the last Enterprise World; this time I think customers will get much more insight into what is coming next. What are the must see sessions in your opinion? Top of the list are Mark and Muhi’s keynotes, as they provide the top level strategic view, and insight into what they see as the key market issues In terms of breakouts, I recommend everyone attend the core roadmap talk for any product they are currently a customer of (like B2B-202,203,204 and FAX-203 and 207), and then prioritize customer case studies (like Miller Coors in B2B-105, or Key Bank in B2B-108) and big picture strategic themes (like IoT, B2B-107) And, finally, what is your favorite country singer/ song? Overall, probably Johnny Cash, but the only country singer on my current playlist is Sam Hunt. Thanks John! Don’t forget to register for Enterprise World to hear more from our experts.

Meet the Experts: Marci Maddox

Meet Marci Maddox, our featured Meet the Expert for today. Marci is the Senior Director of Product Marketing for CEM. What excites you most about the industry right now? Thinking back to the introduction of the world wide web and the introduction of the “web browser”, few could have imagined the wonders that would come to life –  online shopping,  social media, video chats or the encyclopedia at our fingertips.   We are now entering a new era where big data, augmented reality and machine to machine (or Internet of Things) innovations are going to reshape our daily lives.  No longer in this information-rich world is engagement with a customer, employee or partner a one-way street.  Every interaction offers an opportunity to connect better, be persuasive or gain insight into a customer’s needs and present a dynamic and personal on-brand experience.  For marketers this means increasing awareness and conversion and, ultimately, building those highly-prized references and advocates. For customer care, it is quickly turning a frustrating situation into an opportunity to gain a customer for life. There is an opportunity to leverage information and tools to improve customer lifetime value – not just from a CFO numbers perspective, but for brand loyalty, cross-sell and customer satisfaction. What does the digital world mean to you? With the abundance of data at our fingertips today, there are new challenges and new opportunities arising in the world of customer engagement. While legacy enterprise technology is not equipped to deal with this new class of information, there are tools available now that will allow you to turn big data into differentiated, personal customer experiences.  We will not get away from printed marketing material or phone support for a while yet.  But organizations have this great opportunity in front of them to develop a digital strategy that embraces online self-service and insightful assisted-services that support a continuous end-to-end customer journey. Are you ready for Nashville and why? Ready and Excited for Nashville!  Not only because I am a native Texan and country music and bar-b-que are as necessary as water and air, but we have our first opportunity to show off the latest in CEM – both the newest acquisition of OpenText TeamSite, OpenText MediaBin, OpenText Qfiniti and OpenText Explore but also the enhanced Experience Suite release 16 products. Why is this going to be the best Enterprise World yet? This year’s Enterprise World takes a different approach to helping our customers hear about the best practices and gain new ideas on how to use the products they own and complementary products that can further enhance their daily life. There are many more technical how-to sessions for practitioners and developers, plus with the extra track sessions, we can take a deep dive approach into the art of the possible. What will customers learn about your product area at the event? Customers, partners and other attendees will take away ideas and best practices to immediately put into action and an understanding of our strategic roadmap to help them plan their next digital transformation project. What will you be showcasing/ demonstrating? We are excited to once again have our Experience Theater that showcases an end-to-end experience digital content creation to publication story.   We will also have sessions to learn more about the OpenText TeamSite, OpenText MediaBin and OpenText Qfiniti products and theater talks on various CEM topics.   Experience Suite release 16 showcases the newly introduced Communications Center and Experience Analytics, to Adaptive Media for business applications and easier web site creation and publication- there is something interesting for everyone to see. What are the must see sessions on your product area? So hard to narrow down, but the top ones would be: CEM-100 CEM Strategy & Product Direction: Designing a Continuous Digital Customer Experience CEM-104 Use testing and personalization to turn digital customer experiences into profit and loyalty CEM-204 Enhance OT Experience Analytics with Custom Insights CEM-215 Mining Customer Interactions for Marketing Insights And, finally, what is your favorite country song? There are so many great ones out there, but if there is one song that my daughter and I turn up the volume, roll down the car windows and belt out singing as loudly as we can time and time again, is Tim McGraw’s  “Live Like You Were Dying”.    Embrace life and do not be afraid to try new things. Thanks Marci. To hear from all our OpenText Experts,  don’t forget to register for Enterprise World .

Meet the Experts: Mark Gamble

Who’s ready to meet another OpenText Expert?  Well today in Meet the Experts, Mark Gamble gives us his thoughts. Mark is the Senior Director of OpenText Analytics Technical Marketing. What excites you most about the industry right now? Big data analysis and BI is extremely exciting now, mostly because enterprises are realizing that analytics is a key to business success, and that it needs to be an integral part of any digitization effort. Digitizing inherently creates data, which can then be measured and mined and put to use to improve operations and customer engagement. What does the digital world mean to you? It means a world in which the entirety of consumer or social experience is consistently instantaneous and relevant. Digitizing information and processes, and harnessing analytics coalesce to yield a multitude of benefits – customers get product recommendations on their phones right when they need them, patients send medical stats to physicians from their wearable devices, sensors can instantly alert commuters to traffic backups , and the list goes on. Are you ready for Nashville and why? I’m ready to show off analytics demos and talk about customer case studies! We have planned several exciting analytics exclusives just for Enterprise World, including brand new Content Server Insight dashboards, IoT analytic apps, and ElectionTracker ’16. Make sure to visit us in the Expo Hall to see the cool stuff we built just for Nashville! Why is this going to be the best Enterprise World yet? This year’s event will be more focused on customer education than ever before. Our emphasis is to make the event a great learning experience for all attendees, who will leave armed with skills to apply in their own workplace immediately. What will customers learn about our products at the event? Analytics customers will learn how Analytics Suite 16 enables self-service data discovery, allowing users to upload, model and visualize data without IT assistance. Customers will also learn how to analyze unstructured data from raw text, and how to properly visualize the data with meaningful charts and graphs. Lastly, customers will learn the deeper nuances of advanced predictive analysis, as well as the finer points of API integration. What are the must see sessions in your opinion? A “dont miss” set of sessions is the Analytics Suite hands-on workshop, a 3-session series that walks progressively through several hands-on exercises. Students will get to perform predictive analysis then create visualizations and dashboards of their findings, all working with OpenText Analytics live product! There is simply no better way to learn about the Analytics Suite than to take it for a test drive, this is your chance! The sessions are ANA-200 through ANA-202 in your session program. And, finally, who is your favorite country singer? Thats easy: Johnny Cash. He’s the most rock-n-roll country singer of all time! Well said Mark and don’t forget Enterprise World is full of OpenText experts, so sign up today.

Meet The OpenText Experts: Marco de Vries

Today in Meet the Experts, I speak with Marco de Vries. Marco is the Senior Director of Product Marketing for OpenText™ Business Network. What excites you most about the industry right now? The Internet of Things (IoT). It’s a broad term and concept, but it will have a profound impact on the supply chain, and other business processes. Data movement, integration and analytics are the key to success. There are many IoT use cases that OpenText customers already have a jump start on, because we have the platform required to enable these customer use cases. What does the digital world mean to you? Business as usual isn’t an option. Information is now the currency of the digital economy. Organizations must capture, integrate, share and collaborate with more information than ever before. It means building generative ecosystems and communities of interest. The only way to get there is with a complete digital platform like the OpenText digital platform. Are you ready for Enterprise World, Nashville and why? Is Nashville ready for us… that is the question! Yes, I am ready with a plan for how we are adding more value for our B2B and fax customers than ever before. Why is this going to be the best Enterprise World yet? It’s all about the customer at Enterprise World. For our fax customers, we have 15 focused sessions led by our product and support experts. Add another 28 sessions on B2B for a total of 43 total breakouts for Business Network. This year, Enterprise World is about offering value for all OpenText customers. What will customers learn about your product area at the event? Customers will see our product roadmaps, get the top 5 best practices for their products, tips and tricks on how to optimize their solutions, and much more. What will you be showcasing/ demonstrating? We’re especially excited to demonstrate Trading Grid Analytics, the new solution that embeds OpenText™Analytics for business intelligence with Trading Grid, the leading platform for B2B integration. I’d have to Google a guess. Nothing wrong with country, but it’s not my style. Wait, does Taylor Swift count? Most of her songs are pretty good – but I don’t think they qualify as country.
